IT industry jobs 'on the rise'

06:58 3rd February 2011

The number of IT industry jobs is on the rise, particularly for graduates, as financial services have opened up new vacancies in recent times, according to Dan Hawes, co-founder of the Graduate Recruitment Bureau, a recruitment agency.

"There are certain sectors leading the way, like financial services, investment banking and the like," Mr Hawes said.

"IT, retail and FMCG [fast-moving consumer goods] are all areas we're very busy with at the moment," he said.

He went on to say there are overall good signs for the recruitment industry in general. "We are leaving the recession behind us and we are slowly noticing growth in different areas," he said.

The expert's comments emerged as a survey by the REC on the outlook of jobs revealed companies are cautiously positive about prospects for the next year, with 21 per cent saying they will be adding to their headcounts in the next 12 months while and 74 per cent saying they expect to maintain theirs the same.
