More women could be in demand in the IT industry in the future as a growing number of females are now using the internet and technology on a more regular basis.
Chris Sanderson, strategy and insight director at trend forecasting consultancy The Future Laboratory, has suggested that internet advertising has "turned female" as "there are now more female users online than men".
As a result, more women could be in demand when it comes to web design careers, as businesses will look to women to develop websites that can draw in a female audience.
Speaking at ad:tech London, an interactive advertising and technology conference and exhibition, Mr Sanderson said: "We are entering the female century."
Women considering an IT career may be in greater demand because of this shift, as businesses look to react to the changing demographics of internet users.
The ad:tech conference, held on September 22nd-23rd, was designed to provide brand advertisers, agencies, portals, online publishers and technology providers with a forum for discussion of the current trends in the online advertising world.
