The UK's top forensics experts have said three major computer projects have helped them become far more cost-effective and efficient
Government-owned company Forensic Science Service (FSS) reported that the new systems play an essential role in it becoming a global leader in the sector for new technologies.
Analysing around 120,000 cases each year, the FSS pioneered the use of DNA technologies and paved the way for the establishment of the worlds first DNA database, launched in April 1995.
The service's primary IT partner is Capgemini and the work involved a comprehensive upgrade its core system, a new costing and monitoring facility and a new management information system.
The FSS will continue its work with the IT consultancy on projects including devising a new way to track evidence from crime scene to courtroom and a new business planning service.
