Next year's General Election will have a massive impact on the future of Britain's IT industry, it has been claimed.
Anthony Walker, chief executive of the Broadband Stakeholder Group, has warned the industry that the current approach to broadband rollout and a focus on 'Digital Britain' could change considerably next year under a new government.
Speaking at a recent forum on the future of Britain's internet development, Mr Walker warned that the Conservatives and Labour currently have quite different views on how to develop the future of Britain's broadband infrastructure.
That could result in a new set of ideals and aims being implemented in the wake of next year's General Election, with many political experts already predicting a Tory victory.
The current Labour government has launched a so-called broadband tax, which adds a fee of £6 per year onto every fixed phone connection in order to raise the funds to deliver broadband services to every connection in the country.
However, the Conservatives have criticised the tax and have suggested it will not be enough to fund the initiative.
