IT industry brain drain ‘cab be stopped with flexible benefits’

06:56 1st August 2011

Talent in the IT industry can be safeguarded by employers proving a range of benefits in kind, according to Pete Healey, sales director at jobs site IT Job Board.

The UK was at risk of losing IT talent to those of its continental counterparts that are “more willing to give tax breaks or pay better wages”, the expert said.

But Mr Healey added that employers could help prevent this by offering a choice of flexible rewards.

“From what we’ve seen, what is important to staff is having a choice of benefits,” he explained.

“Things like flexitime, health plans, pension plans - things as basic as offering a mobile phone that may not potentially cost as much as salary increases but maybe have more of a benefit in kind to the individual – are going to help in securing talent,” he said.

His comments emerged as research by the IT Job Board showed 61 per cent of IT workers are expecting a bonus. compared to 53 per cent for Germany and the Netherlands respectively.
