Three of the most well-known names in the IT world are joining forces in a new cloud computing initiative.
Intel, Yahoo and HP are to combine in an effort to build a huge cloud system which will be used by universities, training providers and researchers to develop methods of constructing, managing and developing large-scale platforms.
The aim of the project is to allow students and researchers the opportunity to work with a large-scale system and follows a similar imitative by IBM and Google, which works with several universities in the US to develop training.
Prith Banerjee, HP's senior vice president of research, said: "This is a global collaboration that spans the industry, academia and government, and will bring together the brightest researchers from around the world."
Amazon has recently developed commercial cloud computing, which opens the company's infrastructure to third parties that can build, deploy and run application services on the site for free.
