Data center power management and virtualisation are IT firms' top business alignment priorities, an independent survey has revealed.
The poll, conducted by operations management firm Avocent, aimed to discover the top challenges in aligning IT with business objectives.
It revealed that 83 per cent of those questioned consider the ability to measure power consumption as "valuable" or "extremely valuable", while a high number of companies said that they had begun to move towards server virtualisation, mainly for its cost savings.
Ben Grimes, chief technology officer of Avocent, said: "Our survey confirms that businesses are indeed challenged most by the need to effectively manage the increased complexity in today's datacentres, while at the same time keeping networks running smoothly."
Earlier this month, a report by the research firm Gartner disclosed that IT executives are becoming increasingly confused by green initiatives.
