IT firms improving companies

19:26 7th July 2008

IT firms are increasing the competitiveness of UK companies, according to new research by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI).

The CBI report revealed that internet-enabled IT services had given companies major competitive advantages.

The survey of 500 UK companies found that 63 per cent cited improvement in customer retention and satisfaction; 60 per cent cited better tailoring of products and services to customer needs, and 57 per cent cited the improvement of marketing and delivery methods.

Baroness Shriti Vadera, under-secretary of state for business and competitiveness, welcomed the report.

She said: "The development and take-up of IT is critical for business growth and efficiency.

"We need to make sure that all firms - large and small - have access to technology that will improve productivity and, importantly, the skills to use it effectively."

The CBI is the premier lobbying organisation for UK business on national and international issues.
