IT expertise in demand during financial malaise

14:00 20th November 2008

Master data management (MDM) software has jumped by over 24 per cent in the past year, according to research conducted by analyst company Gartner.

Businesses keen to increase efficiency are expected to invest £870 million in master data management in 2008, which is up by £201 million since last year.

MDM employs software tools to check that a company's data is as up-to-date as possible.

Chad Eschinger, an analyst at Gartner, said yesterday (November 19th): "[MDM] has been around for… between five and ten years, perhaps… You will never get away from having to maintain data."

He added that during the current economic malaise businesses were looking to enhance IT efficiency to produce money-saving solutions and cut down on wastage costs.

Gartner is a US-based IT analysis company that was set up in 1979. The company has 4,000 associates and 1,200 research analysts across 80 different countries.ADNFCR-1667-ID-18885983-ADNFCR
