The tech-savvy youth of today, particularly young women, must see the IT industry as more attractive for their career prospects, according to Maggie Berry, managing director of Women in Technology, an information portal.
"The image of IT being geeky and boring needs to be overhauled in order to interest more girls in technology," she said.
"More education for young girls about what careers in technology can offer is crucial if we want to encourage the next generation of female talent to work in IT," she added.
She went on to say that many experts have argued that IT courses should be made more relevant to young people, who are more in touch with technology nowadays than they used to be in the past.
She said some of the teaching might be described as transmitting merely "secretarial skills".
