IT directors are coming under increasing pressure to implement new information management systems, drive forward sustainable practices and target new types of consumers, new IBM research has revealed.
A survey of 136 mid-market chief executives found that 60 per cent want to make changes to their skills and assets in the near future, while more than half plan to widen their partner network and open business in new markets.
The majority of respondents also plan to increase their corporate responsibility investments, such as green IT, as consumers increasingly make purchasing decisions based on sustainable issues.
The report said: "Consumers are becoming producers, often creating entertainment and advertising content for their peers while demanding flexibility and responsiveness from companies with which they choose to do business."
Last week, a study conducted by Kelly Services indicated that a large number of people in the UK believe that they are in the wrong career.
