'IT departments should develop recession-friendly applications'

IT departments should design applications to help businesses cope with the economic downturn, Forrester Research was quoted as saying in a news report.

Teams working in the development of technology applications should conceive them taking into account the needs of small businesses, the company said.

"You need application developers who know how to devour business requirements, break down a problem, find creative solutions and write clean code," the research company was quoted as saying by Computer Weekly.

It went on to say that IT departments should make sure application development teams understand the value of user experience to the company.

In other news, businesses looking to improve their search engine optimisation (SEO) should choose specific keywords that are relevant to their trade, an expert has said.

According to site optimisation specialists Pixl8, keywords must be selected with great care in order for either natural search or pay per click (PPC) campaigns to succeed.
