Global demand for IT is growing strongly in spite of the current economic turbulence, new figures have revealed.
The European Information Technology Observatory (EITO) has predicted that the world IT market is expected to grow in 2008 by 5.2 per cent to £777 billion.
The market research institute also disclosed that it is expecting a growth of 5.6 per cent in 2009, when worldwide turnover in computers, software and IT services could for the first time reach more than one trillion euros.
Bruno Lamborghini, EITO chairman, reflected that fears of an increase in the price of raw materials seriously affecting IT investment have, so far, not been realised.
He said: "The weakening trend in the world economy has hardly affected turnover in the high-tech sector."
Yesterday, the analyst IDC forecasted that worldwide demand for laptops will drive the PC market into an area of double digit growth until 2012.
