IT industry workers are increasingly under pressure to undertake IT courses but at the same time are expected to develop so-called softer skills like good communication and a positive attitude towards business, according to Richard Nott, director of CWJobs.co.uk.
"Agile methodology requires people with softer skills, because it's all about the IT part of the business communicating with the commercial part of the business to deliver the projects that the actual business requires," he said.
He said businesses today expected more than someone sitting alone writing code and wanted more engaged employees who were able to make sense of their expertise and explain it to a wider audience on time.
He describe this new trend as a "much more modern way of working".??His comments emerged as Jim Albert, managing director at Modis International, said in an interview earlier this month that "the days have gone when an IT professional could excel in their role by solely being a master of the technical side of their job".
