The amount of money spent on security within IT departments has risen substantially in the last year.
That is according to new research from Forrester, which has revealed that security now accounts for ten per cent of IT operational budgets.
This is an increase of eight per cent from 2007.
What's more, the study indicated that this figure is only set to rise in the future.
Of the 1,255 firms questioned, 21 per cent said that they think the amount of money spent on security in their IT departments will rise next year.
Forrester analyst Khalid Kark noted that one problem with greater spending on security is an increase in red tape for IT professionals, as well as higher expectations about security issues from their companies.
Nevertheless, Mr Kark said that an increase in security spending is generally a good thing.
He commented: "In this tough economic time, three out of four of us are saying we're going to keep this ten per cent budget and one in five of us are saying we're going to increase this budget in the next 12 months. Wow, that's great."
