IT Industry news: Cloud computing 'does not undermine in-house IT staff'

Basic skills needed to guide people through the technological world would always be necessary despite the spread of cloud computing, Simon May, a well-known cloud evangelist, claimed.

This means that, for instance, a person who works manufacturing widgets is not able to understand really well the latest bit of technology in the cloud.

The main thing is providing to any customer everything he needs regardless of his internet skills, Mr May explained.

"It doesn't matter if you work for one of the major vendors or out there in the field for an organisation," he added.

This is why cloud computing will not undermine the in-house IT staff, according to his point of view.

"I don't think that’s ever going to go away," Mr May explained.

Some people will always need a guide or a gatekeeper to be able to do their daily tasks, he added.

Cloud computing facilities such as Google Apps can be "a valuable business resource", according to Hogarth, CEO of the music website Songkick.
