NatWest's website has been rated as the most reliable in banking, according to a study of UK banking websites by Keynote Competitive Research.

Ten leading UK banks were included in the study and were ranked in terms of their reliability to serve customers without errors and their responsiveness and consistent page downloads.

Halifax was rated with the best responsiveness rating, followed by Bank of Scotland and HSBC.

"As most banks are now offering comprehensive online account management, it is essential that they do not push potential customers to competitor's sites due to a poorly organised home page," Malcom Otter, director of consulting for Keynote told Computer Weekly.

In other news, financial service companies have been too slow to harness social media in their businesses, according to research from Datamonitor.

The research reveals that 50 per cent of UK citizens use online tools to make financial decisions.

Not only can social media be useful in building brand awareness, it also helps build customer trust and brand loyalty.
