The House of Lords' Science and Technology Committee have renewed calls for the government to act on several recommendations made in its Personal Internet Security report.
The committee has put further pressure on the government by suggesting that not enough is currently being done to safeguard the public against cyber crime.
Lord Broers, chairman of the committee, highlighted several issues which have yet to be acted upon, including compelling banks to refund customers who are victims of internet fraud, as well as forming a group of industry and academic experts to classify electronic crime.
Computer Weekly reported that Lord Broers asked the House of Lords "why is the government resisting? Do they think they can do this themselves?".
"We also recommended data breach notification laws. The government seems eager to admit its losses, but this is not the case for banks and industry," he added.
Earlier this month, Wipro Technologies suggested that businesses are abandoning traditional IT in favour of emerging software-as-a-service and cloud computer models.
