Home automation revenue will exceed £7.77 billion by 2015, according to a new report by ABI Research.
The technology, which allows users to control their home remotely or from centralised computers, is seen by home security providers as a path to growth, the report has said.
By the end of 2010, the application is expected to allow users control the lights, temperature and entertainment systems of their house entirely remotely, which means that they won't have to be in the house to modify its settings.
According to Andy Stanford-Clark, master inventor and member of the IBM academy of technology, home automation is still an "emerging technology, it starts with home adopters".
He noted that as society is starting to deal with aging population, the system could help tackle "forgetfulleness" which becomes a "common aspect of daily life" for a generation does not always feel comfortable with the latest technological devices and hi-tech gadgets.
