Super-fast broadband could bring a raft of benefits into countryside communities, a spokesperson for the Communications Consumer Panel (CCP) has said.
Next-generation access could play a part in "revitalising rural economies" by "supporting people in working from home and boosting the efficiency of small businesses", according to the spokesperson.
The comments came as new figures from DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) and broadband websource Point Topic said that high-speed broadband will grow dramatically by the end of 2014.
The CCP spokesperson said that super-fast broadband access would bring several social and economic benefits to Britain, including telemedicine and other tools to support assisted living at home for the elderly.
Last week, the government said that it will try to enable next-generation access in remote areas at the same time as in more populated regions.
It also announced that it will consider using the part of the TV licence fee that is supporting the digital switchover to finance super-fast broadband access in regions that won't be reached by the market alone.
