Hackers are using the latest Web 2.0 techniques to imbed malware into PDF and Flash files on the web, a security firm has revealed.
The web-specialist Finjan discovered disguised code embedded in HTML web pages on legitimate websites and also in rich-content files.
Finjan also disclosed that online advertisements and user-generated content on Web 2.0 websites are becoming popular methods for directing users to these malware-infected content files.
Yuval Ben-Itzhak, chief technology officer of Finjan, said: "Multimedia applications have offered crimeware authors the opportunity to inject malicious code into rich-content files used by ads and user-generated content on Web 2.0 websites."
The term Web 2.0 describes changing trends in the use of internet technology. This concept has led to the development of web-based communities such as social-networking sites, video sharing sites, wikis and blogs.
