Green IT bucks downturn trend

21:00 18th December 2008

A new report has revealed that the green IT industry is thriving despite the current economic difficulties experienced throughout the world.

'Market Overview: A slowing economy won't slow down corporate green IT initiatives' by Forrester, found that one third of IT professionals stated the credit crunch would not force them to abandon the implementation of green IT policies.

In addition, ten per cent said that they would actually be fast-forwarding their environmentally-friendly IT strategy as it would be a great way of enhancing their corporate social responsibility credentials.

According to the report: "The slowing economy will not derail efforts to make IT operations more efficient and less environmentally harmful."

Rocketing fuel prices were another incentive for businesses to explore energy-efficient IT systems.

The Carbon Trust Standard certificate was launched in June 2008 to recognise the efforts of businesses that reduce their carbon emissions.
