Those behind the next big development in the IT industry are currently not sufficiently focused on security issues and need to ensure they are pushing the issue of security more forcibly.

Cloud computing has been touted as one of the biggest developments in the IT industry over the coming years, as more businesses look to make savings by using the technology.

Adam Bosnian, vice president of products, strategy and sales at Cyber-Ark, has warned that security issues should not be merely an afterthought for the IT industry when developing cloud computing technology.

"Security doesn't work as a retrofit - it needs to be built in from scratch for it to be effective," he said.

Meanwhile, David Pratt, chief operating officer of IT services from cloud computing provider ThinkGrid, has highlighted the potential for cloud computing to become a major force in the IT industry as more businesses look to take on the technology.

He explained that, because applications and data are stored in the cloud, management burdens for businesses can be greatly reduced.
