Govt urges greater IT innovation

The government has published a new report titled Innovation in Services in a bid to encourage UK businesses to innovate in IT.

The report, which is based on industry led reviews, says that the government will work with the Technology Strategy Board and the British Standards Institute to take forward its recommendations.

The research covered industry sectors including internet services, environmental services, retail, construction and logistics; disclosing that the internet has transformed the power of consumers.

"Innovation is critical to the UK’s future prosperity, our quality of life and future job prospects," noted the report.

In response, the government said that it will conduct an independent review into the barriers of next-generation broadband networks in the UK.

Earlier this month, IT industry watchdogs warned IT firms that are not already managing their energy that they are introducing unnecessary business risks.
