Government 'must be tougher in fighting filesharing'

Government authorities in the UK have not been radical enough over how they tackle illegal filesharing, according to Craig Priestley, founder of The Music Mag – a new music talent site.

"The fact is, the government doesn't want to upset the public or else they won't receive many votes. It has to be an agreement between all political parties to agree to the same rules or else nothing will be done," he said.

Mr Priestley went on to say that the only way to prevent filesharing would be to close uploading sites such as rapdishare, megaupload and filefactory. But he feels this is unlikely to happen.

"It's too much effort for the government to sort out," he said.

His comments emerge as defendant Alan Ellis, who ran music sharing site OiNK from his bedroom in Teeside, overseeing just under 200,000 members, was found to be not guilty of illegal filesharing by Teeside crown court.
