Web giant Google must connect to the user base of mobile network operators in order to make its Nexus One smartphone a success, Jonathan Morris, editor of mobile phone magazine What Mobile, has said.
"Google needs the help of the network operators who maintain the relationship with the vast majority of mobile phone subscribers," he argued.
According to Mr Morris, sales of Nexus One never took off because most users did not know how easy it was to buy it. This was due to the device being "well below the radar of most people as Google did not advertise".
His views emerged after the search engine company's announcement that is going to stop selling Nexus One via its web store once the smartphone's in-store availability has been increased.
Mr Morris said that Vodafone's move to make Google's device available in high street stores across the UK could help it become "a big success".
