Google 'looking to get more involved in mobile advertising'

09:10 19th June 2010

Giant internet search engine Google is likely to get more into mobile advertising as the use of mobile internet rises, according to James Atkinson, editor of the fortnightly UK mobile phone industry magazine Mobile.

"Google want a slice of that action"," said Mr Atkinson. "When Google launched the Nexus phone it was really just them wanting to find a way to protect their online advertising on the fourth screen," he said.

The company's Android mobile operating system (OS) has had the biggest web consumption share over the past year, according to figures published by media measurement service Quantcast.

Separately, Apple said last week it is to debut its iAd mobile advertising network by the start of next month on iPhone and iPod touch devices running its iOS 4 software platform.

Mobile's Mr Atkinson expects the competition between Apple and Google in the mobile advertising space to increase following the launch of iAd.
