The global IT industry is set to see a rise in demand for data storage facilities in the coming months, following a decline during the recession, an expert has suggested.
Mayank Bawa, chief executive and co-founder of data management and data analysis provider Aster Data, said: "The next five years are all going to be about data. 1995 to 2000 was all about networking and communications, while 2000 to 2007 was all about computation."
Such a focus could result in a significant shift for many people in IT careers, as the move to concentrating on data storage requires different considerations and potentially the need to acquire some new skills.
Data storage is displaying signs of a recovery, with falls in sales slowing, a recent report from industry analyst organisation IDC found.
However, its results revealed there was still a ten per cent year-on-year decline in revenue as providers slashed costs in order to shift products during the recession.
