Information Technology spending around the globe is set to fall by 6.8 per cent this year, according to a new report by Gartner. And Dan Joe Barry, vice president of marketing at network-adapter developer Napatech agreed with the new research.
"In the last year, there's no question that the [growth] line has been lower than we would have anticipated last year," Mr Barry said.
According to Gartner, IT spending this year is projected to total £1.37 trillion, down 6.8 per cent on 2008. Analysts forecast the market will return to growth next year, when it will grow at 2.3 per cent to reach $2.34 trillion (£1.40 trillion).
The greatest drop in the sector is in agriculture, mining and construction, with a 9.2 per cent fall on 2008, Gartner revealed. Whilst the least affected market was national and international government procurement, having fallen only 3.6 per cent.
