In the near future, businesses will be able to give employees a single wireless computing device that they can carry everywhere to access corporate IT, a leading technology company has predicted.
Gartner, the IT research firm, has insisted that developments in the network infrastructure to support mobile convergence will enable users to access IT systems from one device.
The University of London Computer Centre is already starting to use wireless networks to enable staff to access office systems from mobile devices.
Specifically, Gartner identified that the Session Initiation Protocol used in VoIP systems, which allows IT directors to release communication-related business processes, will join the different networking environments together, enabling wireless access to corporate IT.
Last week, a poll by Steelcase revealed that IT professionals have mixed feelings about the option of home working.
