The fundamentals of copyrights are still being breached online and tougher EU regulation is needed, according to Alison Wenham, chairman of the Association of Independent Music.
"The fundamentals of copyright are pretty well breached by the ability to move material around seamlessly and undetectably. Blogs, therefore, form a growing problem because they are not what one would strictly call or refer to as filesharing," she said.
Ms Alison went on to say that many internet users pop links onto their blogs as a way to flatter the content providers or to exchange information but if this is done on a larger scale the issue "is far more similar than a file sharing service".
In her view, that's a more "cynical attempt" to avoid payment for copyrighted music.
Her views emerged as the pan-media European Audiovisual Social Dialogue Committee is calling for "improvements to the legal framework" to provide tougher piracy regulation as well as increased pressure on internet service providers to fight illegal filesharing over their networks.
