Women with IT training are a target employee for most companies, according to Maggie Berry, managing director of career portal and networking site womenintechnology.co.uk.
"Most firms, when you talk to them, they would love to see more women coming into their business, but they just don't see them," she said.
She also said that the majority of enterprises don't have women with IT skills coming to them, despite their eagerness to hire them.
The expert said womenintechnology.co.uk is attempting to address this issue by "trying to help companies increase the flow of CVs that they see".
Rather than there being a particular skills gap among women in the IT job market, she said there was just a general short supply of women.
She pointed to a decrease in the number of IT jobs available to women over the last 18 months.
"If you don't necessarily need to look for a new job right now, maybe it's still not the best moment in time, but hopefully next year will be better," she said.
