Nearly a third of businesses plan to reduce their carbon footprint by increasing their use of technology, new research has revealed.
TFM Networks polled 250 senior business managers and discovered that although 70 per cent are concerned about rising oil prices, only 50 per cent indicated that they had actually developed strategies to reduce their consumption.
Stewart Yates, managing director of TFM Networks, explained that IT is an important method for firms aiming to reduce their exposure to fuel prices.
He suggested: "Simple steps such as IP-based video conferencing and flexible working can reduce fuel expenditure and improve overall efficiency by removing the need for unnecessary travel."
TFM Networks is a virtual network operator that attempts to ensure that companies derive maximum benefits from their IT.
Last week, Tim Newing, IT director of easyJet, claimed that IT budgets are being refocused as businesses turn to technology to cut costs and streamline processes in difficult financial conditions.
