Film buffs can now enjoy top quality film-watching via the internet, thanks to innovative new software.
FilmOn is an entertainment facility that offers films for rental or free-to-view through the use of net-based computers that are clustered so that the films can be reduced in size and are therefore able to be transmitted through narrow pipe-work.
The film facility can also be transmitted to a mobile as well as offering a community content option so that groups of people can be put in touch through their choice of film.
Richard Crosby, who is chief scientist at Digital Utilities, told the BBC: "The processing power is spread out across the globe, rather than on a single server. We start off with a few servers in select places and as demand picks up, a fresh cluster kicks in."
Oscar-nominated film director Robert Mulligan died last week (December 20th) in Connecticut at the age of 83.
He directed the ground-breaking film To Kill a Mockingbird depicting racial tension in America's Deep South, which came out in 1962.
