IT security fears are stifling business innovation at 80 per cent of firms worldwide, according to a leading research analyst.
IDC conducted interviews with 200 top business executives and security professionals at large firms and found that the vast majority admitted that their organisations had backed away from new innovation opportunities because of data security concerns.
The survey also discovered that only 80 per cent of respondents believe their security teams are held accountable for their contributions to business growth, while 44 per cent felt that security leaders are being measured on their contributions to innovation.
RSE president Art Coviello said: "The inextricable link between security and innovation is clear, but organisations are still really struggling with how to strike the right balance between driving new innovations to market and instituting effective IT security practices."
Last month, a Logica survey revealed that UK businesses are ignoring the risk of security breaches and have a lack of knowledge on how to manage data risks.
