Fashion retailers told to offer more menswear products online

Fashion retailers can increase their online sales by offering more menswear products over the internet, according to a market expert.

Hannah Kimuyu, director of paid search at Greenlight, said that even though the proportion of men shopping online is smaller compared to women, men are the ones who usually buy more expensive items.

According to Ms Kimuyu, men tend to make technology purchases online - laptops, smartphones, MP3 players, "whereas women will buy a few of those things, it's just that a lot more of their product buying online is fashion, beauty products and things for the home".

She added that men go and buy fashion items offline because there are not many options online.

Her comments come as new figures from the Office for National Statistics revealed that the percentage of UK online retail sales stands at eight per cent of total retail sales - a 0.2 per cent increase compared to the previous month and 1.5 per cent more than February 2009.
