Facebook selects Dublin

13:35 3rd October 2008

The social networking site Facebook has chosen Dublin as the site for its new international headquarters.

The company revealed yesterday (October 2nd) that the new Dublin office would house both technical and sales operations for Facebook's operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

This deal will make Facebook the second technology giant to select the Irish capital as a location, after IBM chose the city to host one of several new cloud computing installations that the firm is rolling out worldwide.

Sharyl Sandberg, chief operating officer of Facebook, said: "The talent pool in Dublin is world-class and recruiting local talent will help us better understand the needs of local users and the regional dynamics that, in turn, can give us better insight into what features matter most."

Last week, it was revealed that MI6 is using Facebook to recruit employees, in an attempt to diversify the secret service's base of applicants.
