Encryption 'is key when trying to store data'

Encryption 'is key when trying to store data'

06:57 22nd June 2010

Using cryptography in the right way is essential to store data, according to Brian Chess, founder and chief scientist at Fortify Software.

But he said that to use it correctly was a challenge. "More often than not the weakest link becomes the software that orchestrates the process rather than the encryption algorithm itself," Mr Chess said.

Mr Chess went on to say that the trend in the industry is specialisation. He said specialised providers will one day be able to provide a better class of service to all customers, even to those who have highly specialised needs.

Separately, people considering moving their data to the cloud were citing the security of their data as a major concern, according to a recent investigation by US magazine Business Week.

And mobile storage solutions need to be encrypted to be assured of having high security, according to a report on cmswire.com.
