Emailing lacks etiquette

The temptation to hit the send button in a moment of anger or emotion when emailing is a sign of the times, says Web-User Magazine.

People write things in emails that they would never dare say in a face-to-face situation because of the relative anonymity and detached nature of emailing.

And the phenomenon of curt or down-right rude emails is now firmly embedded in the society we live in and such email etiquette shows no sign of dissipating.

Ben Camm-Jones, news editor at Web-User Magazine, commented: "People are more likely to say things they could regret in emails or texts because they lack courage - they would probably never dare say these things directly to someone else."

He added that, just as people talking on their mobile phones in public is a contemporary condition of technological progress, inappropriate emails are a by-product of these cyber times.

Research published in November by IP (Internet Protocol) communications provider Mitel, revealed that 85 per cent of respondents rated email as the most important communication tool for their work purposes.
