Email 'not effectively managed'

13:04 29th August 2008

Businesses are failing to effectively manage their email through a combination of poor staff management and a lack of archiving, a new survey has revealed.

GFT inboxx, the data archiving firm, surveyed 260 workplace email users and discovered that over three-quarters of employees receive no guidance on the storage or retention of business emails.

In addition, the poll discovered that user habits are putting unnecessary strain on mail-servers and storage capacity, with 41 per cent leaving files attached to emails.

Juergen Oberman, chief executive of GFT inbox, said: "These results suggest organisations are still taking a lax approach to the storage of information and the management of e-mail."

Last week, a technology expert claimed that IT professionals are too integral to business survival for employers to risk losing them during the credit crunch.
