Digital marketing can produce better results when it is combined with more established marketing methods, according to Kevin Dendy, commercial director at the Direct Marketing Association.
Speaking at the Technology For Marketing & Advertising 2010 event, Mr Dendy said that digital marketing should not be used as a replacement for core marketing channels.
"They have to work in tandem with each other," he explained.
According to Mr Dendy, businesses should adopt an integrated approach to their campaigns. "It's not just about digital and the way that's going, it still has to be in conjunction with multiple campaigns; it's all about being fully integrated," he said.
Mr Dendy's comments emerged after a new report suggested that a growing number of companies are sacrificing marketing's core principles to concentrate on digital marketing.
The UKFast report said that the transparent nature of digital marketing is dragging companies away from using a healthier combination of traditional and digital platforms.
