Online communities provide support and camaraderie to those who suffer from diabetes, it has been claimed.
Amanda Neylon, digital media manager, of Diabetes UK, said that many people are using the group's Facebook page to share their experiences with others in the same position
"Just looking at our wall on any day shows how people are supporting each other, sharing stories and celebrating successes and motivating those who are feeling down", she said.
Her comments came as a new research found that web support for sufferers of chronic diseases, including diabetes, is booming.
According to the US study, these people are more likely to access user-generated health content such as blog posts, hospital reviews, doctor reviews, and podcasts.
Ms Neylon added that the internet enables very responsive feedback, giving diabetes sufferers "the confidence to be honest and open, which can be difficult for some in a face to face situation".
