Sufficient content is key to websites wanting to increase their online reputation, according to David Hollands-Hurst of Pixl8 Interactive.

"This is not just content for the website itself but content for press releases, blogs, testimonials, social media channels and other third-party sources", said Mr Hollands-Hurst, who is a search engine optimisation (SEO) consultant at the group.

He added that companies wanting to manage their online reputation should both boost SEO and create sufficient positive content that will drive adverse comments away from the first search engine results pages.

His views follow a best practice guide to effective SEO published by 61DesignStreet.com, a SEO and web design firm, saying that regular content, as well as effective tagging, is crucial to driving up results in the major search engines.

According to 61DesignStreet.com, "content is king" in SEO.

However, regular content should be carefully managed in order to guarantee a good online reputation, Econsultancy noted in a recent analysis piece.
