The Tories have been the most proactive party in the UK in using Facebook to communicate their political ideas, according to Ivan Ristic, director and co-founder of Diffusion.
According to Mr Ristic, the Conservatives and its candidates have embraced the social network "more enthusiastically" than their competitors.
"To thrive, social networks need to be fed with quality content which encourages engagement", Mr Ristic added, noting that the official Facebook page of the Tories is "doing a much better job of that compared to Labour".
Mr Ristic's comments came as a recent study by Fishburn Hedges showed that Facebook will be used by the majority of prospective parliamentary candidates.
The research by the public relations firm found that 83 per cent of the candidates surveyed said that the social network will play a central role in their campaigning efforts, while one out of two candidates said that they will use Twitter in the same way.
