The majority of staff working within the information and communication technology (ICT) sector have turned down offers of further computer training.
Research from IT skills organisation e-skills UK found that 77 per cent of IT staff have turned down the opportunity for more computer training in recent weeks, reports ZDNet Asia.
In addition, the number of advertised IT vacancies has declined by ten per cent in recent months, while IT professionals are increasingly choosing to remain in their existing job rather than seek something better - there were 12 per cent fewer IT job-seekers during the third quarter of 2008.
Alex Farrell, managing director of the IT Job Board, told the website: "The market is the same but the perceptions of IT personnel are that there are less contractor jobs and more permanent positions, which we have yet to actually see."
Although interest in IT training has fallen, the sector has seen pay rises of up to three per cent a week.
Recent research from the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTia) found that internet security awareness has dropped in UK business.
