Computer training programme aids construction skills

A computer training programme has been developed in Coventry to help construction professionals improve employees' skill sets.

The ACT-UK Simulation Centre is scheduled to open in the autumn and will use virtual reality with real-life actors to help train construction professionals in skills such as people management and communication, reports 24dash.com.

Modelled on the Dutch Building Management Simulation Centre at Leeuwarden in the Netherlands, the technology is already used by hundreds of Dutch firms and could make a real difference in the UK as well.

Michiel Schrijver, managing director of ACT-UK, told the website: "Alongside technical knowledge of the build process, site managers need excellent people skills in order to manage subcontractors and other site staff."

He added that the wide range of individuals who managers need to interact with is one of the underlying reasons for the technology's success.

In related news, the Evening Post reports that computer training courses offer an opportunity to socialise as well as learn new skills.
