Computer training: Parents 'must teach children about internet safety'

Part of a child's early computer training must include lessons taught by parents on how to safely navigate the internet, according to Nikolay Grebennikov, chief technology officer at Kaspersky Lab.

"The quantity of threats is increasing very fast," he warned as the The US's Federal Bureau of Investigation warned online users about the possible threat from viruses being spread to computers through links claiming to lead to images of Osama Bin Laden's dead body.

"From the quality point of view, bad guys have started to use very sophisticated methods, not just to put the malware on the system but also to fight against anti-viruses and remove anti-virus processes and files from the system," he explained.

He emphasised parents must teach their children the rules on how to operate in the online world alongside rules to deal with normal life.

"It can help a lot," he added.
