Computer training: Brits 'are reluctant to change IT equipments too often'

Owners of computers in the UK aren't keen to buy a new device to often in an effort to save cash and time, according to Roddy McLean, marketing director at memory upgrades brand Crucial.com.

Those reluctant to switch machines should consider a memory upgrade to their present one to "keep them running longer", he said.

"Not only does that save the user money for replacing the computer, but it saves them the hassle of moving all of their data and preferences to a new computer," he explained.

His comments emerged as a survey published by Crucial.com revealed
British computer owners reportedly replace their personal computer after
an average of only 4.5 years of use.

Separately, the International Data Corporation (IDC) said last month PC shipments in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa contracted further than expected in the first quarter of this year.

The drop was explained as a result of continued softness in demand and persisting inventory levels in the distribution and retail channels, the IDC said.
