Computer courses: IT education 'must improve in the UK'

06:41 2nd March 2011

IT training must be made relevant to the needs companies across the UK face, according to Richard Nott, director of website CWJobs.co.uk.

"Young people are moving IT, but we just need more of them," he said.

"I've been talking to universities that do computer science degrees and all the rest of it about how to attract more people onto IT courses in the UK," Mr Nott added.

"It's about making the [IT] courses relevant to what businesses want at the end of it," he explained.??The expert went on to say authorities in Britain must really pay attention to this because over time it might become an issue that hinders companies from becoming successful and as a result damage the country's economy.

His comments emerged as Simon Humphreys, coordinator at the BCS Academy of Computing, said ICT courses were not "fit for purpose", speaking at a Westminster eForum on IT skills earlier this month.
