Companies to focus on data quality as recovery from downturn begins

Businesses are expected to turn their attention to data quality as they try to recover from the financial slowdown, according to Daragh O Brien, member of the International Association for Information and Data Quality (IAIDQ).

"There will be an increased focus on information quality and data consistency as we begin the upswing from the recession," said Mr O Brien, who is also IAIDQ's former director of publicity.

He added that the "inefficiencies and workarounds" in the way many companies manage their data will have been exposed by cutbacks in budget and staff numbers caused by the downturn.

According to Mr O Brien, enterprises should focus on "streamlining and improving the management of information and the reliability and quality of the information assets" in order to achieve further benefits of recession motivated cost management.

His views emerged after a new report by Stibo Systems and Datactics found that businesses and IT departments lack confidence in their product information quality.
